The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is our primary parish apostolate for directly serving the poor and hungry. Our society serves primarily parishioners and those living in the community of Acushnet.
The SVDP society at St. Francis regularly receives donations of food and maintains a small parish pantry for the distribution of shelf-stable food goods to those in need. During the holidays of Thanksgiving and Christmas, they also operate a special holiday program to regular clients of their society.
During Christmas the society sponsors an annual Giving Tree in which parishioners donate non-food items designated by tags hung on the Christmas-Tree in the church.
Our SVDP society also donates food stuff to the local and largest Food Pantry in the area at St. Anthony of Padua of New Bedford.
Here at St. Francis Xavier of Acushnet, all the proceeds of our holy day collections go directly to the society to assist the local poor. If you are interested in helping with this great ministry or making a donation to St. Vincent de Paul please call or e-mail the parish office.
