To schedule a Mass Intention:
Please call or visit the parish office. Mass intentions are usually scheduled six months in advance, but may be scheduled at any time. The suggested offering is $10.
Mass Cards:
The parish office also has Mass Cards available. These look like a beautiful greeting or sympathy card but inside record the time and date of the Mass intention. These cards can be given to the living person for whom the Mass is offered or to the family of the deceased at the funeral home wake or any other time.
The custom of requesting that a priest offer Mass for a specific intention (most often for the soul of one who is deceased) is a longstanding tradition within the Church. Prayers for the dead have roots in Jewish tradition which has continued in the Christian tradition (see the Second Book of Maccabees 12:39-45). Masses can also be offered for the intentions of a living person.
The Church considers the Mass the greatest intercessory prayer insofar as it is the perfect offering of Christ. The Mass makes truly present the paschal mystery of Christ’s passion, death, resurrection and glorification.
